The Interislander Wellington Ferry Terminal is an important transport gateway linking Wellington with Picton across Cook Strait. Located at Kaiwharawhara, between Wellington’s central city and State Highway 1, the terminal is approximately five minutes’ drive from the heart of the capital.

Interislander ferries carry foot passengers, vehicles and freight between the North and South Islands. The crossing normally takes around 3.5 hours, offering passengers views of Wellington Harbour, Cook Strait and the Marlborough Sounds along the way.

Passengers travelling without a vehicle can use the Interislander shuttle from Platform 10 at Wellington Railway Station. Those travelling with a vehicle should follow the terminal signs and arrive at least 60 minutes before departure, with their booking confirmation and photo identification ready. 

Please note that Bluebridge operates from a separate terminal at 50 Waterloo Quay, so passengers should confirm their ferry operator and departure location before beginning their journey.
