Te Pātaka Kōrero o Te Tatau ki te Māramatanga | War Memorial Library is Lower Hutt’s central library and neighbourhood hub. Located beside Riddiford Gardens, it provides a welcoming place where residents can read, study, use technology, explore local history and participate in community activities.

Visitors can browse and borrow books and other library materials, use public computers and internet services, access printing and photocopying, receive computer assistance and attend programmes for children, families and adults. Facilities also include a café, accessible bathrooms, a Changing Places facility and nearby parking.

Library members can also access a wide selection of online resources, including more than 38,000 eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines, digital newspapers, learning tools, family-history resources and film-streaming services. The library app can be used to search the catalogue, reserve items, renew loans and manage borrowing.

The building is also an important part of Lower Hutt’s heritage. Opened in 1956, it was developed as a community war memorial and features three large murals by New Zealand artist Leonard V. Mitchell.

The current schedule includes late opening until 8:30pm on Wednesday, while Saturday hours changed to 9:00am–5:00pm from November 2025. Visitors should check the official website for public-holiday or temporary changes.
